I have been having a spring clean of my old digital filing and came across this short film clip of a project I worked on 18 years ago! A collaboration between b consultants ltd (Where I was working) and Zaha Hadid to design and engineer a moving stage for a production at Graz Opera based on Orpheus and the Underworld. The graphics were cutting edge back in the day!
In November I had the great fortune to be Design Director as wells as Scenic Painter on the Ashton Theatre's production of Phillip Pullman's 'His Dark Materials'. The Theatre Director - Dr. Helen Brown, came to me with an initial concept of windows between worlds, layered space and actual flying witches. I developed this concept, through a series of models and drawing, working through ideas and their buildability and H&S with the theatre 'Jedi Master' technician, Alex Davies ably assisted by his Padawan, Will and Harry.
The design was a multi-layered ziggurat of decking and scaffold, incorporating swings and a slide...
During August and September, I had the opportunity to work in a temporary project space studio, at Participate Contemporary Artspace, while working on a landscape painting commission.
I'm pleased to say that - from the !st December 2017 I officially joined as a Studio Artist there.
I am now mostly moved in and have already begun working. I'm really looking forward to getting back there after the Christmas and New Year break - to creating new things and being part of the life of the studio that the other talented Artists, Designers and Craftspeople there.
I look forward to taking part in and supporting exhibitions there...
In the Autumn half term, My sister and niece, came up to visit for a few days.
My niece was very keen to make a painting with her Arty Auntie. So we all camped to the cabin in the garden to work there.
The result was the very charming 'Owl' with which my 10 year old niece was very please and with which may sister and I were very impressed. It was brilliant to work with her one to one and support exploring composition, colour, brush marks and line/edge and textual quality to get the feeling of 'Owl' that she wanted.
I really enjoyed it - and would like to develop a workshop for others that would like some support and foc...
